Destination Guadalajara
Our teaching placements are all located in gorgeous Guadalajara. With beautiful colonial squares, gothic cathedrals and an awe-inspiring backdrop of towering mountains, Mexico’s second largest city lacks nothing in the looks department! Let the sultry mariachi music feed your soul as the streets come alive after dark. Soak up the culture at Hospicio Cabanas, a World Heritage Site and home to the murals of famous Mexican painter Jose Clemente Orozco. Enjoy a mouthwatering local favorite - torta ahogada (spicy roll stuffed with pork and drenched in hot sauce) - whilst being wowed by a traditional Mexican rodeo. Couple this with over 200 different types of tequila and you will find that Guadalajara is not just a city – its living legend!

FAQs
Tell me about...
Airfare – Airfare to Mexico is not included in our package fee. However, we can help you to book flights at good rates once we have secured your placement.
Arrival in Mexico - Airport pick up service is provided free of charge upon your arrival in Mexico. A representative from either the institute or our agency will be there to meet you and take you to Guadalajara.
Accommodation – Finding accommodation in Mexico is very easy. The institute will help you to find an apartment to rent. Costs range from 800 pesos per month if you want to share an apartment with other teachers to 2,000 pesos per month if you want your own place.
Costs – Living costs in Mexico are low, low, low! You can get by on around one third of what you would spend in your home country. An avocado costs around 3 cents, a beer $1.15, camping at the beach around $3, taxi trip around $1 for 10 miles.

Setting up a bank account – Your institute will help you to set up a local bank account as soon as you arrive in Mexico. Your salary will be paid into this account. Wiring money from Mexico back to your home country is also quick and convenient and can be done from any high street bank.
Travel insurance – Travel insurance is not mandatory for Mexico and not usually necessary. For extra peace of mind about a suitcase going missing or your flight being delayed, it can be worth ordering some insurance before you go.
Safety – The vast majority of people travelling to Mexico have a fantastic time and a trouble free experience. Whilst there, common sense rules apply such as blending in as far as possible, being aware of your belongings when amongst large crowds of people and refraining from overtly flashing too much cash around.
Vacation time – This can be requested and arranged with your employer. The amount of vacation time varies according to institute.
Food – Mexican food can be a delight to savor and getting away from the standard tourist fare can often lead to many a mouthwatering treat. Keep an eye out for Ceviche (raw fish marinated in lime juice), Poc Chuc (pork fillet cooked with onions, tomatoes, and spices) or perhaps a plate of Tostadas (crispy tortillas served with lashings of guacamole, sour cream, chilies and chicken). Don’t forget, the smaller the chili, the hotter the chili!
Clothes – As the positions involve teaching adults and English language instruction within companies, smart attire is required for work.
Shopping – Mexico has a level of shopping to challenge even the most ardent of shoppers! Stroll through serene air-conditioned malls or dive head-long into one of the bustling local markets that offer everything from huaraches to monkeys. Don’t forget to haggle!
Health care in Mexico – The standard of health-care in Mexico is very good with affordable care and prescriptions available throughout the country. Many of the doctors and dentists are trained in the US and hospitals and clinics in all the major cities (particularly Guadalajara) are equipped with the latest in medical technology.
Weather – Mexico enjoys a moderate climate with little variation in seasonal temperatures. The beach areas are hot and humid but weather in the areas of higher altitude is generally very mild (18 degrees on average).
